An ultrasound is a scan that uses high frequency sound waves to create pictures of the inside of the body. It is used to look for any changes in organs and tissue. A referral letter from a consultant or GP is required before booking any diagnostic investigation.

You will are given a detailed ultrasound report to show to your GP/Midwife - You will be referred to your specialist fetal unit if a concern is noted and this will be communicated with you.

Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic we have implemented safety measures:

You are only able to attend the scan with your one other person

Both you and your partner will be required to had sanitise/wash hands and wear a mask

We will take your temperature when you arrive - we can only offer services if your temperature is within the normal range and will recommend following Public Health England Advice and NHS advice if you have a temperature above 38 degrees.

We ask you to telephone us once you arrive and you will be escorted into the clinic and seated in an area to allow social distancing

Do not attend if you are self isolating or have been advise to shield

Do not attend if you have any Cornavirus symptoms such as temperature, courgh or loss of taste or have been in contact with someone with Cornavirus symptoms or confirmed Covid 19, or have recently returned from travel abroad within 14 days.

We are registered with NHS Test and Trace. If you visit the surgery please scan the QR code on the door using your app.

We are ensuring our clinic is clean at all times and cleaned between patients.

Our staff will be wearing personal protective equipment (PPE)

We are also implementing the 2 meter social distance rule and PPE will be worn by the staff member conducting the scan.

Dating Scan Details

Our Dating Scan offers early pregnancy assurance to ladies from as early as 6 weeks or two weeks following a first positive pregnancy test if LMP is unknown. Each of our early pregnancy scans come complete with a medical report. Our expertly trained sonographers and clinic team will provide you with the best possible reassurance from 6 weeks gestation.

If you feel weekly scans will offer more reassurance during the early weeks of pregnancy then these can be arranged in addition to this package.
The primary purpose of this scan is to confirm pregnancy dating and determine health.
The scans will last about 10 minutes and a 2D scan picture will be given to you to take home and keep.
All early scans are performed by a qualified diagnostic Sonographer.
As this package is offered from 6 weeks, it is medically recommended that the scan is carried out trans-vaginally with consent to ladies pre-10 weeks. We will always consult with ladies before their scan, so if you’d prefer an abdominal scan, please let us know.
If you are unsure of your LMP or have irregular cycles you will be asked to confirm the date of your first positive pregnancy test and we will book your appointment two weeks following this to ensure your are atleast 6 weeks. We may not be able to provide results can be unclear prior to this gestation.
This scan is available to women over 18 years of age or to women of 16 and 17 years who attend with a responsible adult.
Please note, to book a scan with firstScan, a positive pregnancy test result is required.
