Emily Williams, Gilpin County. Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love. Couples come together to enjoy one another and in appreciation of each other. One such couple is just starting on their adventure in love. Deputy Lee Ramsey and his wife Kristen Ramsey are that couple. They’ve been dating for a while but recently have married. These two have endeavored through lots, combining families, moving in together, and lots of fun adventures. When interviewing this happy couple, they talked about how they make it work.
The starting of this love story happened around early August 2019 when school was just starting. Both went into work that day unknowing that it was the start to their forever. Deputy Ramsey was standing by the front doors opening it to those who came up the steps. When Mrs. Ramsey, then Ms. Williams, walked up the stairs with her children behind her. She said good morning to him, and he then grunted in response, apparently too distracted by the new woman that walked past him.
After the two got to know each other through brief encounters in the hall or in passing, Deputy Ramsey realized that he had grown fond of Mrs. Ramsey and decided to work up the courage to ask her out. And that was that. Now the once strangers in passing are happily married.
Though both have had previous experiences with relationships before, both said that this is the best they have ever been in. When I asked what made this different from others, they replied that communication is what makes it work for them and that they balance each other out and make each other better. They also said that the key to a successful relationship is having trust, communication and being honest with each other.

Their favorite story to share with others is the time they went on a weekend getaway to go boating. They got ready for the occasion and packed fishing gear so they could go fishing as they boated. Deputy Ramsey bought a brand new fishing pole and lure for the occasion. One of the days they went out on the boat, Mrs. Ramsey decided she wanted to fish. So, using the pole and lure that Deputy Ramsey had just set up, she cast the line into the water. However, as she did this, she realized something was wrong. Deputy Ramsey looked over and saw that both the line and the lure were gone. They ended up chasing after it for a long time and luckily found it after a little bit of searching. In the end both blame the other teasingly. Deputy Ramsey said that it was Mrs. Ramsey’s fault, and Mrs. Ramsey said that he did not tie the line tight enough. In the end they both had a few laughs and now find the whole situation funny.
I asked what they did for their favorite date. They said it was when they went hiking with Mrs. Ramsey’s kids. They recall it being nerve racking but fun.
I also asked if their thoughts of love were different from when they were growing up. Both agreed that it was. To them it was much deeper and more intense than what they thought growing up. They said the love they have is much different than a first love, high school love or even a college love. However, they also said that it’s the best kind of love.
Raising a family is one thing but combining two together is another story. Deputy Ramsey has two daughters, and his wife has four children of her own, three girls and one boy. Combining such a family could seem difficult, especially since the oldest kids of the bunch are all a year apart, but for them it wasn’t. With love and patience, they have made it work.
